There is a whole variety of different scene hair styles out there, when we add different extensions and accessories we can style our hair so that it is a lot different from other scene girls out there. Hair is the ultimate accessory!

If you are looking for some scene style and never had a scene haircut you should seek first seek out the look you really want. You can do this by browsing the internet and checking out other girls styles to get some inspiration. There is a section located on this site dedicated only to scene hair check it out HERE.

The typical scene hairstyle is usually a choppy layered number with long bangs. Often hair extensions are added to boost volume, the scene hairstyle is quite high maintanence so if you are going to get this look, do keep in mind you will need to style your hair often! If you are are going to get your hair dyed i would recommend you see a professional (we dont blonde dream turning into green nightmares!!!). Usually jet black or a white blonde are the scene girls color of choice.

No matter what scene haircut you choose you WILL need a pair of straightners, this is ESSENTIAL! Once you have seen a stylist and had your hair cut to perfection you are going to need to learn how to style you hair in that scene style!

If you really want to go all out, grab yourself some hair accessories and go NUTS! Polkadot, Bows, Racoon style extensions whatever you can think of. The cuter the better!

LENGTH
How long your hair is will determine what you can get. You need to consider how long your hair is in different sections, what do you have on the bangs, the sides, the back, the top. Look at all of these when you’re deciding what you can get as far as a cut.

“MY HAIR’S NOT LONG ENOUGH!”
If you may have a style in mind and are lacking as far as length you can do one of two things: wait and grow it out, or (if you’re pretty close) get it cut it in that style and let it grow out that way.

“MY HAIR’S TOO LONG!”
Well then you’re fine. If you’re one of those people who’s let their hair grow like crazy (instead of finding a style) then you’re in luck, you can do pretty much anything you want. However, keep something in mind: It’s better to go for a longer cut at first, you can always cut shorter. Just saying.

STEP 2: WHAT DO YOU WANT?
This is generally the hardest part for people. What do you want? Yes you want amazing, sexy, and stylish hair but what specifically do you want…? It’s hard I know. No one method works for one person so I’m going to go over a few ways to look for a hairstyle, as well as a few things to keep in mind.

LOOK AT THE BACK
What kind of back do you want? Some people like simpler manageable backs, others want it a little longer so they can spike it up. Figure out if you can and are willing to go for the length there, some people really love it.

LOOK AT THE TOP
Most emo (scene) hairstyles today go either two ways, the length of the hair is continuous or it’s textured. Continuous means that the hair runs all the way from the top to the bangs and sides. Textured means that some of the hair at the top has been cut in a choppy way to add a more messied look.

LOOK AT THE SIDES
Most hairstyles these days have sides that aren’t that thick, they tend to be just enough to keep the bangs in proportion; however there are a few examples of where thicker sides gave a more “poofy” look. Sides don’t also have to be the same thickness, if one side is thicker it can give another look.

LOOK AT THE BANGS
Long bangs tend to be a crowd favorite, there’s not much variety other than length but they have two basic characteristics that you can tweak to be longer or shorter: The first is “the fringe” the hair that is cut with a slight angle, (with one side is shorter and one side is longer.) The other are the side bangs (the hair that is cut around the side of the face.) You can have a long fringe and short sides, a short fringe and long sides, both long, both short, whatever.

Ok so you’ve trawled the internet, hit the streets spying on every girl that walks past and finally youve found the hairstyle you want….but how to you create such a hair masterpiece …. Product product PRODUCT!! (and perhaps a little trip to your stylist!)

Freezing Hairspray

For: Setting hair

What is it: Hairspray is a sprayed liquid used to create hold (rigid stiffness), Freezing spray is designed to be used as a last “finish” to your hair, keeping it set in place and preventing it from changing shape. Unlike working hairspray freezing spray can usually be found in aerosol or squirted liquid, they behave the same it’s a personal preference. (I’ve posted only aerosol because it’s the most popular type.)

How to use: Style your hair by any method, spray all around hair, coating evenly. Let set.

Caution: Don’t apply too much your hair will become crusty and heavy. Be careful not to touch the hair once it has set, it will ruin the hold and make your hair drop back to the way it was before.

Working Hair Spray

For: Styling with hairspray

What is it: Hairspray is a sprayed liquid used to create hold (rigid stiffness), working hairspray differs from normal hairspray in that it has a slight “grace period” between the time it is applied to hair and the time it actually holds. This allows you to spray and style your hair into a particular shape for a brief time, after which your hair will retain the shape.

How to use: Spray onto section lightly, style either during the spray or immediately after. Let set. Apply an additional top layer for extra hold if needed.

Caution: The setting of the hairspray can be fast, you can apply it and have it immediately evaporate on you, leaving your hair in a nasty shape you didn’t intend; you need to work fast when styling. Also like freezing hairspray it’s extremely easy to use too much; you need to make sure you don’t apply so much your hair becomes crunchy. Be careful not to touch the hair once it has set, it will ruin the hold and make your hair drop back to the way it was before.

Latex Texturizers

For: Texture with separation

What is it: Latex texturizers are semi-sticky pastes that help make your hair stick to each other without clumping (separation.) This gives your hair a look of controlled messiness without making your hair sticky or hard.

How to use: For just slight texture use only a tiny amount (pea-sized is about right). Rub vigorously through hands then push through in the way that you want to create the effect.

Caution: Start light, if you add too much your hair will get weighed down and you’ll end up with hair that is flat and heavy; build up as you get a feel for how much you need.

Wax Texturizers

For: Texture without separation

What is it: Wax is actually what it sounds like in many cases. It’s a thick sticky paste that will make hair clump and give high levels of texture (controlled messiness). They are made for people who need that extra bit of stickiness to keep their hair together.

How to use: Get a few fingers worth (enough to leave a noticeable layer on your hand) rub through hands vigorously then push through hair in the way you wish to create the effect.

Caution: Waxes are very heavy, they can also make hair oily, some have a tendency to set once they are applied don’t be touching your hair a lot otherwise it might come out in a dry form like dandruff.

Serums

For: Controlling ultralight hair

What is it: Serums are liquids used by a rare breed of people who have light hair. It adds a thickness to hair and purposefully weighs it down to prevent flyaways (strands and sections of hair that move because of their light weight.) The kind of person who need these are very VERY rare, I do not recommend using it unless you are absolutely sure that none of the other products can help.

How to use: Squirt a small amount on your hands, run through hair, style in needed direction and let set or blow-dry. Continue with other products needed.

Caution: Make sure you need it; if you don’t you’re painfully creating weight when you don’t need to. Make sure you let it dry the way you want your hair to be, serums set so that your hair doesn’t just become loose when it dries.

This time we are going to start a basic skill that you will need in creating the purrrrfect scene girl hairstyle ….THE BACKCOMB!

Here is the scene hairstyle we are going for:

To achieve this scene hairstyle you will need.

- Hairspray (Extra Strong!!!)
- Comb (Preferably a teasing comb)
- Hair Straighteners

Step 1.

First Straighten your hair all over, this will really help at the end when the hair is BIG!

Step 2.

Now starting at the top and back of your head use the tail end of the teasing comb and partition of a piece of hair (not too much!).

Step 3.

Pull that section of hair straight and put the comb in a few inches from the root and strart brushing towards the root.

Step 4.

Spray a little hairspray into the roots, make sure not to get it on top or this will show!
